Plastic surgery refers to the surgical repair, restoration, or alteration of the body. The two main branches of plastic surgery are reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery and. Reconstructive surgery includes burn treatment, hand surgery, and microsurgery. Cosmetic surgery includes aesthetic procedures, such as breast augmentation, liposuction, or rhinoplasty. With increased interest in aesthetic procedures, the cosmetic field of plastic surgery has grown in the past few decades. However, plastic surgery is not only about aesthetic procedures; much of it focuses on the restoration of skin or facial structures, such as burn victim patients. Plastic surgery is a very diverse and innovative field, making it a great specialty for students who are open to challenges and change in their careers.
