Medicine is such an impressive field, and it truly has infinite opportunities. That's one of the reasons why I came to love medicine. There are professions for every type of person, and that is the beauty of it. Personally, I've always loved biology, anatomy, etc., and the idea of being able to use what I know for the benefit of others enticed me ever since. Plus, I love working with children, so this further fueled my passion for medicine, specifically pediatrics (and pediatric specialties in fields such as neurology and dermatology). There are so many paths people can take, and there are endless specialties, so aspiring healthcare professionals can pursue their interests in several different specializations: Pathology, Neurology, Oncology, Anesthesiology, and so much more!
The media nowadays usually presents healthcare and careers in medicine as high-stress and always on the go. However, that's not technically the case. A plethora of professions in medicine boast a great work-life balance while providing impressive pay. The key is to find a career that best suits one's desired lifestyle. In addition, medical professionals can work in private practices, which allow them to have a more flexible schedule. On top of that, people who pursue careers in medicine can choose to work in a clinical setting (seeing patients daily, diagnosing/writing prescriptions, performing surgical operations, etc.) or a laboratory setting (running tests, studying diseases, conducting research/reports, etc.).
All in all, I can safely say that medicine never ceases to surprise me. To have the opportunity to specialize in a field that piques my interests, provides me with an exciting and rewarding lifestyle, and allows me to help others every day is jaw-dropping; I can't wait!
